The grapes for this Malbec are cultivated on the loamy soils of Gualtallary, located at an impressive altitude of 1,300 metres above sea level. The unique terroir, enriched with limestone and gravel, imparts a refreshing minerality, while a small percentage of clay emphasizes the wine's vibrant fruit character.
The growing season in 2021 began with a fresh and dry spring, ensuring optimal fruit development. With moderate summer temperatures and timely rainfall during harvest, the grapes reached perfect ripeness, resulting in a wine that's both aromatic and structured.

- An intriguing hint of tangerine peel
On the palate, expect a vibrant and complex fusion of flavors, including:
- Ripe black and red fruits
- Subtle saline and white pepper notes
- A silky texture with rounded tannins
- A savory, mineral-driven finish
For the ultimate enjoyment, serve the Altos Las Hormigas 2021 Malbec at slightly below room temperature (16–18°C) to accentuate its rich flavors and elegant structure. Pair it with:
- Grilled flank steak with a coffee and ancho chili rub for a bold complement
- Aged Manchego cheese alongside quince paste and Marcona almonds for a sophisticated platter

Storage advice
For storing red wine like Malbec 2021 maintain a consistent temperature between 55°F and 65°F (13°C - 18°C) ideally around 55°F to 60°F to avoid premature aging or spoilage. Avoid fluctuations and never exceed 70°F as heat damages wine quality.
Keep the bottle away from direct light especially sunlight and fluorescent lighting to prevent UV damage which causes premature aging. A dark storage area or cellar is optimal.
Humidity should be kept between 50% and 70% to prevent cork drying and air ingress while avoiding mold issues. Use a humidifier or dehumidifier if needed.
Store the bottle horizontally to keep the cork moist which maintains its seal and prevents oxidation.
For unopened bottles these conditions preserve the wine's quality and aging potential. After opening red wine should be re-corked tightly and stored in the refrigerator at about 40°F (4-5°C) to slow oxidation. Before serving allow it to warm up to an appropriate drinking temperature (about 60-65°F).
Avoid vibrations and strong odors near the wine to maintain integrity though these details are less critical than temperature light humidity and cork condition for red wine storage.
