Description

Donnafugata Sherazade Nero d'Avola 2023 is a distinguished red wine that highlights the rich viticultural heritage of Sicily. Originating from the sun-drenched vineyards of South-western Sicily, this wine is a true testament to the region's unique terroir, characterized by:

  • Soil Composition: Clay loam soils enriched with limestone, providing optimal nutrients for the vines.
  • Altitude: Vineyards positioned at elevations between 200 - 400 meters above sea level, ensuring cooler temperatures that enhance grape quality.
  • Vine Training: Nero d'Avola grapes cultivated at a density of 5,000 vines per hectare, utilizing vertical shoot positioning and spur pruning techniques.

Crafted exclusively from 100% Nero d'Avola grapes, Sherazade undergoes a meticulous vinification process. After a gentle pressing, the must is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, undergoing a 6-8 day maceration period at a consistent temperature of 24-25°C. This is followed by malolactic fermentation, allowing the wine to mature in tank for four months before bottling. To ensure optimal flavor development, it is then aged for an additional three months in bottle pre-release.

The 2023 vintage of Donnafugata's Sherazade is expertly designed to present a vibrant and aromatic profile that is ready to be enjoyed young. Ideal for both new and seasoned wine enthusiasts, this wine offers an approachable introduction to the Nero d'Avola grape and the essence of Sicilian reds.

Experience the allure of Sherazade Nero d'Avola and indulge in:

  • Flavors: A harmonious blend of dark fruit notes, floral hints, and a touch of spice.
  • Serving Suggestions: Pairs beautifully with grilled meats, pasta dishes, and rich cheeses.
  • Alcohol By Volume: 13.5%, delivering a balanced and lively tasting experience.

Storage advice

1. Temperature: Cool and Consistent: The most crucial factor is a cool stable temperature. Aim for around 12-18°C (54-64°F). Fluctuations in temperature are more damaging than a slightly higher but consistent temperature. Avoid Extremes: Never store wine in hot environments (above 24°C / 75°F) as this can "cook" the wine leading to dull flavours and premature aging. Equally avoid very cold temperatures (below 0°C / 32°F) as this can cause the wine to freeze and push out the cork. 2. Darkness: Keep it Dark: Light especially direct sunlight and fluorescent light can degrade wine over time. Store bottles in a dark place away from windows or artificial light sources. The dark glass of the bottle offers some protection but it's not foolproof. 3. Humidity: Moderate Humidity (50-70%): A moderate level of humidity is important to prevent the cork from drying out and shrinking which can lead to oxidation (wine spoilage due to too much air contact). Too high humidity can encourage mould growth on labels but won't harm the wine itself. 4. Orientation: Horizontal: Store the bottle horizontally (on its side). This keeps the wine in contact with the cork preventing it from drying out and allowing air to seep in. For screw-cap bottles this is less critical but horizontal storage is still generally recommended for space efficiency. 5. Vibration and Movement: Stillness: Avoid storing wine in places where it will be subject to frequent vibrations such as near washing machines refrigerators or heavy foot traffic. Vibrations can disrupt the natural aging process and potentially disturb the wine's sediment. 6. Odours: Odour-Free Environment: Wine corks are permeable meaning strong odours in the storage area can eventually taint the wine. Store wine away from strong-smelling chemicals paints or even highly aromatic foods.
