Discover the exquisite flavor of Løitens Export Aquavit, a remarkable spirit crafted in Norway that embodies rich culinary tradition. Established in 1855, the Bondesamvirket Løiten Brænderi has perfected the art of aquavit, which ages for 3 to 5 months in oak casks, allowing it to develop its distinctive character.
This Norwegian aquavit offers an unparalleled tasting experience with:
- Aromas: A captivating blend of caraway, citrus, apricot, and subtle spices, creating a warm and inviting bouquet.
- Palate: Enjoy a smooth, medium-bodied texture that highlights notes of caraway, citrus, and apricot, elevated by a gentle sweetness and a warming finish.
- Finish: A clean, medium-length impression with lingering hints of caraway and an earthy undertone, leaving you wanting more.
Løitens Export Aquavit is not just a drink; it's a journey through the frosty Scandinavian landscape. It's perfect for any occasion, serving as an enchanting aperitif or complementing a variety of dishes. For optimal enjoyment, we recommend the following serving suggestions:
- Serve at bar temperature or chilled for a refreshing experience.

Storage advice
For optimal storage of Aquavit maintain the following conditions to preserve its quality and shelf life:
- Temperature: Store Aquavit at a stable cool temperature ideally between 55°F to 65°F (13°C to 18°C). This range prevents heat-induced flavor deterioration and is suitable for long-term storage. Refrigeration or freezing is not necessary for unopened bottles but can be used if you prefer to serve it chilled. Avoid temperature fluctuations.
- Light Exposure: Keep the bottle in a dark place away from direct sunlight. Light can cause chemical changes that negatively affect flavor and color over time.
- Sealing: Ensure the bottle is tightly sealed. The high alcohol content acts as a preservative but if air enters the bottle (especially after opening) it may degrade the flavors. Use the original cap or cork and if transferring to another container select one designed specifically to preserve spirits and limit air exposure.
- Bottle Position: Store the bottle upright rather than lying on its side. This prevents the alcohol from contacting the cork or cap which could degrade the closure and alter the spirit’s taste.
- Humidity: While spirits are less sensitive to humidity compared to wine storing Aquavit in a place with moderate to low humidity helps protect labels and bottle integrity particularly if the bottle has a cork closure. Excessive humidity can encourage mold growth on corks but does not affect the liquid inside.
- Special Tips for Aquavit:
- Unopened Aquavit bottles can last indefinitely under proper conditions due to their high alcohol content.
- Once opened store with the cap tightly sealed upright and ideally in a cool dark place. Although Aquavit does not spoil quickly exposure to air over time can diminish aromatic qualities.
- Serving temperature does not affect storage but for drinking many prefer it chilled. To achieve this without changing storage conditions keep Aquavit at room temperature for storage and chill only before serving.
