Description
Experience the exquisite charm of Offley Colheita Port 2004, a distinguished wine that embodies the rich heritage and terroir of the Douro Valley in Portugal. Crafted from a meticulous blend of 35% Tinta Roriz, 25% Touriga Franca, 25% Touriga Nacional, and Tinta Barroca, this sweet port offers a sumptuous and velvety experience that is truly captivating.
The 2004 vintage showcases a series of climatic shifts, beginning with a wet winter followed by a dry spring that resulted in successful flowering and fruit set. A defining characteristic of this vintage was the wettest August in 104 years in northern Portugal, leading to optimal grape ripeness at harvest, which is evident in the wine's complexity and depth.
Upon tasting, you'll be greeted by:
- Aromas of dried apricots, figs, and roasted nuts that intertwine with warm toffee and subtle spices, creating an aromatic profile that is both intense and nuanced.
- On the palate, rich layers of dried fruit harmonize with vibrant acidity, leading to a long and elegant finish that envelops the senses.
- A lingering finish with toasted walnut and caramel warmth, providing a smooth, nutty embrace.
This remarkable port shines when served slightly chilled at 12-14°C. Here are some suggestions to enhance your tasting experience:
- Serve in small, tulip-shaped glasses to concentrate the aromas and enhance the sipping experience.
- Pair with artisan blue cheeses or aged Manchego to highlight the nutty and dried fruit undertones.
- For a sophisticated contrast, enjoy with dark chocolate sprinkled with smoked sea salt.
- Use in a "Port Old Fashioned" cocktail, stirred with orange bitters and garnished with a flamed orange peel.
- Drizzle over roasted figs stuffed with mascarpone and toasted walnuts for an elegant dessert pairing.
- For festive occasions, gently warm with a cinnamon stick, a slice of orange, and a clove stud for a refined mulled Port experience.
With its complexity and depth, Offley Colheita Port 2004 invites you to savor each sip, whether it’s enjoyed on its own or as part of a delightful pairing. Elevate your next occasion with this exquisite wine that embodies the traditions of fine Portuguese port-making.

Storage advice
For optimal storage of Port maintain a cool stable temperature between 12°C and 20°C (54°F to 68°F) ideally around 13°C to 15°C (55°F to 59°F) to minimize expansion and contraction that can compromise the cork seal. Avoid temperature fluctuations especially rapid or large changes.
Light exposure should be minimized by storing the bottle in a dark place free from direct sunlight or bright artificial light which can damage the wine.
Store the bottle on its side to keep the cork moist and swollen preserving the seal and preventing air ingress. This is particularly important for long-term aging Port such as vintage or Colheita styles. For opened bottles store upright to avoid contamination through the cork.
Maintain a relative humidity around 70-75% to prevent the cork from drying out and shrinking; too dry an environment risks cork deterioration while excessively humid conditions can cause mold.
The bottle should be sealed tightly—original cork closure is preferred. After opening re-cork tightly or use a vacuum stopper to limit oxygen exposure.
For unopened bottles store in a cool dark and humid-controlled environment such as a cellar or wine fridge dedicated to Port with controlled temperature and humidity.
For opened bottles keep sealed tightly stored upright in a cool location and consume within 4-6 weeks as Port oxidizes more slowly than table wine but will still degrade over time.
Avoid heat sources vibrations and strong odors near storage areas to prevent quality loss.
